Anambra Speaker Calls For Inclusion Of State In N1.6B FG Flood Intervention Fund.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu has called on the federal Government to urgently include Anambra state among the beneficiaries of the one point six billion naira flood intervention fund mapped out for the flood ravaged states in the country.
The call was sequel to the announcement of the release of the fund to sixteen states by the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo .
Barrister Maduagwu argued that the chart on erosion ravaged states as disclosed by the Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) placed Anambra state second in the danger list and queried the rationale behind the exclusion of the state from the intervention fund.
The Speaker noted that people from the erosion ravaged local government areas in the state such as Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Anambra – East, Anambra West and Ayamelum constantly lose many lives and property annually to flooding.
She noted that the last flood incident in the state rendered millions of people homeless and destroyed valuable property of which most of them are yet to be reconstructed, hence the need for the federal government’ flood intervention fund.
Barrister Maduagwu commended Governor Willie Obiano for using the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in solving some of the flood problems in the effected local government areas in the state.
