Benue floods: Buhari orders NEMA intervention
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to the aid of the victims of the flooding in Benue State. Recall our earlier post that the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says over 110,000 people in 24 communities, including Makurdi, the state capital, have been displaced by flood.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the president expressed concern over the flood which has affected thousands of homes and displaced more than 100,000 persons in 12 local government areas in the state.
According to the statement, the President, who is in his home town Daura for the Sallah holiday, is closely monitoring the situation, and will be receiving regular updates on the scale of the disaster, as well as the Federal Government’s humanitarian response.
